Tatyana Abramochkina and her husband Vladimir have been crafting custom-made dollhouses with intricate interiors for a decade, turning a charitable act into a thriving family business. Their creations, born from a desire to donate to a children’s charity, have gained popularity across Russia, with orders booked months in advance.
The couple’s journey began when they decided to participate in a “Letter to Santa Claus” campaign, fulfilling a child’s wish for a dollhouse. A photo of their creation on social media sparked immediate interest, leading to their first orders. Initially balancing the dollhouse venture with their full-time jobs, the increasing demand prompted them to dedicate themselves entirely to their growing business.
Based in Novosibirsk, the Abramochkins create dollhouses with meticulous detail, incorporating furniture, rugs, vases, paintings, curtains, blankets, books, and even miniature pets. They utilize birch plywood, solid wood, and MDF boards for the houses, and fabrics for interior elements. Tatyana and Vladimir work together, cutting and assembling each piece manually, and they’ve even built a workshop equipped with a program-controlled machine.
The price range for their houses varies from 15,000 to 170,000 rubles, depending on size, complexity, and interior details. While standard models are available, they also fulfill custom orders, including a 1.75-meter tall house for Paola Reina dolls. Despite the high cost of materials, the couple earns approximately half a million rubles a month from the sale of their dollhouses.
Their intricate work and dedication to detail have garnered attention from customers across Russia, with Moscow being their primary market. Before sanctions, they also shipped internationally to countries like America, Germany, Israel, Latvia, and Qatar. Although they’ve lost count of the total number of houses they’ve created over the past decade, Tatyana acknowledges it’s a significant amount.
The family’s two sons also participate in the business, assisting in the workshop and admiring their parents’ craftsmanship. Tatyana continues to seek inspiration from interior design trends, hoping to incorporate them into her future projects. While they dream of having more days off, the couple remains passionate about their unique family business and the joy it brings to their customers.
