Singer Yaroslav Dronov, known as SHAMAN, has departed from the ethno-opera “Prince Vladimir” due to a heavy workload, leading to a replacement for his stage partner, Soya. The role of Prince Vladimir will now be played by choreographer Daniil Blagov, who previously served as the movement director for SHAMAN.
Soya revealed that she required psychological assistance after working with Dronov, citing the intense immersion in their characters as a factor. She stated that the experience was unforgettable and that she needed several sessions with a psychologist after the first dress rehearsal and the final performance.
The creator of the play, Igor Matvienko, explained that Blagov was chosen as the replacement due to his musical education, piano skills, and familiarity with the material. Matvienko said that Blagov was the best choice after considering many people for the role.
Dronov’s departure was not unexpected, as he was initially contracted for only three performances. Soya noted that their relationship evolved during the two years of working together and that their separation was inevitable. She added that she would remember how often Dronov surprised her and that they are forever connected by the experience.
Earlier in the year, Dronov’s dedication to the role raised eyebrows when he displayed affectionate gestures towards Soya, including hugs and a kiss on the neck, sparking rumors despite his relationship with Ekaterina Mizulina.
