Sergei Sosorev, 37, has been remanded in custody for two months following an incident on Peterhofskoye Highway where he allegedly struck a motorcyclist with his Rolls-Royce. The Krasnoselsky District Court made the decision on June 4th.
The incident occurred on May 31st when Sosorev, driving a white Rolls-Royce, reportedly crossed a double solid line and collided with a 35-year-old motorcyclist. Eyewitness accounts suggest the car ran over the victim twice.
Initially, Sosorev faced charges including violation of traffic rules resulting in serious harm to health and intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm. The Investigative Committee even considered attempted murder, but the prosecutor’s office overturned this decision due to lack of objective confirmation.
Sosorev was not immediately detained after the accident. He was later invited to the police for questioning, and after initially failing to appear, was brought in more firmly. Throughout the investigation, he invoked Article 51 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, refusing to testify against himself.
The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries. Doctors assessed his condition as moderately severe and prepared him for shoulder surgery. While initial reports indicated a life-threatening condition, later updates confirmed he was conscious and undergoing planned treatment.
During the court hearing, Sosorev stated he had been in contact with the injured motorcyclist, compensated him for damages, and apologized to his relatives and the public. He attributed the accident to inattention and claimed it was accidental.
Further investigation revealed that a person with the same name as Sosorev was previously deprived of his driver’s license in 2020 for a similar traffic violation. He also has a history of traffic violations, with over 40 infractions. Sosorev owns shares in businesses related to hookah lounges and real estate.
