Electric scooter sharing services in Yekaterinburg are now implementing user ratings that influence the speed limits for riders. This change comes as a response to concerns about reckless driving and violations of traffic rules by scooter users.
Whoosh and MTS Urent have confirmed that users with higher ratings are permitted to travel at speeds up to 25 kilometers per hour, while those with lower ratings face speed restrictions. The rating system considers factors such as the number of trips, fines, warnings, accidents, driving style, parking quality, and age verification.
Yandex has a slightly different approach. They reduce the speed of electric scooters to 20 kilometers per hour only for new users and those who have violated service rules or traffic laws. The company is currently analyzing the results of a pilot project that tested speed restrictions for certain users and is assessing its impact on travel safety.
The introduction of user ratings aims to encourage responsible scooter usage and improve overall safety on city streets. However, issues such as scooter riders disregarding traffic regulations, tampering with device identification to avoid fines, and threats against those reporting violations persist.
