Russians to enjoy extended holiday for Russia Day in June

Russians will have an extended weekend from June 12th to June 15th in celebration of Russia Day. This holiday provides a four-day break, allowing citizens to rest or travel.

Russia Day, celebrated on June 12th, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the RSFSR in 1990. This declaration marked a pivotal moment in Russian history, establishing the priority of the Russian Constitution.

The extended holiday is a result of combining the Russia Day holiday with a day off transferred from March 8th. The March 8th holiday, which fell on a Saturday, resulted in the postponement of a day off to Friday, June 13th, further extending the June holiday.

On June 11th, employees are entitled to leave work one hour early due to it being the day before a public holiday.

While this extended break offers a chance for relaxation, taking additional vacation days in June might not be financially advantageous. There will be 19 working days and 11 days off in June, influencing the calculation of vacation pay. Vacation pay is calculated based on calendar days, while wages are based on working days. With fewer working days in June, the cost of each working day increases, potentially reducing the overall vacation pay compared to months with more working days. Months like July and October have 23 working days.

National Unity Day on November 4th will mark the next long weekend for Russians.
