Russian Railways Denies Recommendation for Passengers to Lie with Head Towards Exit

Russian Railways has refuted reports that it instructed passengers to lie with their head towards the exit instead of the window. The Federal Passenger Company (FPC), a subsidiary of Russian Railways, stated that no new rules or changes to existing instructions have been implemented.

The denial follows widespread media reports suggesting that Russian Railways employees were advised to recommend passengers lie with their feet towards the window after an incident in the Bryansk region. However, both Russian Railways and the FPC have confirmed that this information is false.

The FPC addressed the rumors directly in its official Telegram channel, urging the public to verify information and contact the carrier for clarification. This statement reinforces the company’s commitment to accurate communication and dispels any confusion regarding passenger safety guidelines.

The false reports emerged after a road bridge collapsed on May 31 in the Bryansk region as passenger train No. 86, traveling from Klimovo to Moscow, passed underneath. The train collided with the collapsed structure, causing the derailment of the locomotive and several cars. The incident resulted in numerous injuries and fatalities. As of June 2, over one hundred people were reported injured, and seven people had died.
