Russian Prosecutor’s Office Demands Oligarchs Relinquish Control of Energy Company

The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office is seeking the forfeiture of energy company “Oblkommunenergo” from oligarchs Artem Bikov and Alexei Bobrov, along with their shares in over 80 other companies. The legal action, filed with the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg, alleges violations of anti-corruption laws involving regional government officials and company managers.

The lawsuit names former Sverdlovsk region ministers Alexei Pyankov (State Property) and Nikolai Smirnov (Housing and Communal Services) as defendants, accusing them of aiding Bikov and Bobrov in gaining control of “Oblkommunenergo.” Current Vice-Governor Oleg Chemezov is also listed as a defendant. The Prosecutor General’s Office has not yet officially commented on the information, and the Department of Information Policy of the Sverdlovsk Region stated they have no information on the topic.

According to reports, the “STS Corporation” holding, allegedly controlled by Bikov and Bobrov, monopolized electricity generation and supply, as well as solid waste management, in regions of the Ural Federal District. The Prosecutor’s Office argues this control poses a threat to the country’s strategic security. Preliminary security measures have been imposed on the lawsuit.
