President Vladimir Putin has proposed a new initiative to provide families with preschoolers a “children’s book card” worth 3,000 rubles to improve access to children’s literature. This announcement was made during a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of State Policy regarding the support of the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
Furthermore, Putin suggested establishing a new national holiday, the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Russia, to be celebrated annually on September 8th, coinciding with the birthday of Rasul Gamzatov.
The “children’s book card” program aims to support families with children aged three to six years. Putin emphasized that each child would receive the card upon reaching the age of three, highlighting the importance of this support for large families.
Gamzatov, the author of the renowned “Cranes,” considered both Avar, the language he wrote in, and Russian, which enabled his works to achieve global recognition, as his native languages, according to Putin.
