Russian President Expresses Condolences on the Death of Director Alexander Mitta

Alexander Mitta, a renowned Russian film director, has passed away at the age of 92. The news of his death was announced today, though the cause of death has not been disclosed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. In his message, Putin described Mitta as an “outstanding director, screenwriter, and a man of generous and distinctive talent.” He added that “a kind and bright memory of him will remain in the hearts of relatives, colleagues, and admirers of his multifaceted work.”

A farewell ceremony will be held on July 17th at the Central House of Writers in Moscow, according to Mitta’s son, Evgeny. The public will be able to pay their respects from 12:00 to 14:00.

Born on March 28, 1933, in Moscow, Alexander Mitta (born Alexander Naumovich Mitta) had a distinguished career in film. He directed several acclaimed films, including “Crew,” “Shine, Shine, My Star,” “Tale of Wanderings,” “Border. Taiga Romance,” and “Moscow, My Love.” Mitta graduated from the directing faculty of VGIK in 1960, marking the start of his successful career. Before pursuing directing, he graduated from the engineering and construction faculty of the Kuibyshev MISI in 1955. His directorial debut was the film adaptation of Alexander Khmelik’s play “My Friend, Kolka.” He was a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, a member of the board of the Guild of Film Directors of Russia, and a recipient of the TEFI award in the nominations “For Best Screenplay,” “For Best Direction,” and “For Best Television Feature/Fiction Series.”
