Russian Ministry of Defense Reports Massive Strike on Ukrainian Airfield

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced a large-scale strike on a Ukrainian airfield near Dubno in the Rivne region on the night of June 9th. According to the ministry, the airfield was used to base tactical aviation aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The military department stated that the strike was a retaliatory action for previous Ukrainian attacks on Russian military airfields.

In addition to the airfield, Russian forces targeted enterprises involved in the production of weapons and military equipment. Workshops assembling strike drones and warehouses storing ammunition, weapons, and equipment belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine were also hit.

The strikes were carried out using high-precision, long-range weaponry and UAVs. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation confirmed that all designated targets were successfully hit.

On June 6th, the Ministry of Defense reported another response to Kyiv’s attacks, stating that Ukrainian military facilities were affected. Prior to the second round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul on June 2nd, several Russian regions were reportedly attacked by Ukrainian drones. These attacks targeted airfields in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions. Furthermore, on the night of June 1st, bridges in the Kursk and Bryansk regions were destroyed, resulting in casualties. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has identified Ukraine as the organizer of these attacks.

The Kremlin reported that President Vladimir Putin informed then U.S. President Donald Trump that Moscow would respond to Kyiv’s attacks on Russian territory. Dmitry Peskov, the Russian leader’s press secretary, indicated how and when Russia would respond to the strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
