The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on June 10 the prevention of a terrorist attack in the Krasnodar Territory. A Russian citizen, born in 2003, was detained in connection with the planned attack.
The FSB alleges that the individual was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) via WhatsApp in February 2024. The suspect is accused of gathering intelligence, including photographing military installations and tracking the movements of Black Sea Fleet vessels.
According to the FSB, the suspect confessed to his involvement and is cooperating with the investigation. A criminal case has been initiated against the individual under articles related to preparing a terrorist attack and illegal handling of explosives.
The FSB further stated that the suspect was instructed to retrieve an improvised explosive device weighing 2.5 kg from a hidden location. The plan was to detonate the device at an administrative building of an energy facility within the Krasnodar region.
The FSB has issued a warning about the increasing use of Telegram and WhatsApp by Ukrainian special services to recruit individuals for sabotage and reconnaissance missions within Russia.
In a separate incident, the FSB reported the disruption of a group intending to smuggle aircraft parts out of Russia, potentially including Ukraine as a destination.
