Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has refuted claims by the Kyiv regime regarding the destruction of Russian aircraft in the June 1 attack on military airfields, stating that the reports are completely unfounded. According to Ryabkov, while some aircraft sustained damage, they were not destroyed and are subject to restoration.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on June 1 that Kyiv committed a terrorist attack using FPV drones targeting five airfields located in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions. The ministry confirmed that aircraft caught fire in the Murmansk and Irkutsk regions but the fires were quickly extinguished. Several participants in the attacks have been detained. There were no casualties among military or civilian personnel.
Ryabkov addressed the potential impact of the attacks on the strategic balance, stating that the affected equipment is being restored. He also noted that the specific types of equipment involved are not necessarily fully covered by certain agreements.
Ryabkov also mentioned the New START treaty, reminding that Russia has suspended its participation.
In addition to the airfield attacks, other incidents have occurred recently. On June 1, a road bridge in the Bryansk region was destroyed, resulting in injuries to over 100 people and seven fatalities when debris fell on a passenger train. A bridge in the Kursk region also collapsed as a freight train was crossing, injuring the driver and his assistants. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has classified both bridge explosions as terrorist attacks. Furthermore, on June 3, an attempted sabotage was reported near the Crimean Bridge, and on June 5, an emergency situation occurred on the railway in the Voronezh region.
