The State Duma is considering a proposal to eliminate needs assessment criteria for large families seeking state support. This initiative aims to provide more equitable access to benefits for families with multiple children across all regions.
Sergey Mironov, leader of the “Fair Russia – For Truth” party, announced that amendments would soon be introduced to address the issue. He believes that all families, especially those with many children, deserve unconditional support from the government.
Currently, the income of large families is not considered when assigning local benefits in 40 regions of the Russian Federation. However, the remaining regions still use needs assessment criteria, creating disparities in the support received by large families based on their location.
Mironov emphasized the importance of establishing uniform benefits for large families throughout the country, regardless of their income. He also suggested raising the threshold of need to two subsistence minimums for families with one or two children. The deputy believes that the needs assessment criteria are particularly unfair when calculating single benefit payments, and that large families should receive unconditional support.
