Russia will begin punishing the distribution of advertisements on resources recognized as extremist and undesirable starting this autumn. This was announced by Vladimir Logunov, the Deputy Head of Roskomnadzor.
Logunov stated that any advertising found on prohibited resources after September 1st will be subject to fines. This includes both labeled and unlabeled advertisements.
According to Logunov, if advertising is identified on a prohibited resource, fines will be imposed for its placement. If the advertising is not labeled as such, a fine will be issued for the lack of labeling.
This announcement follows a law signed by President Vladimir Putin on April 7th, prohibiting advertising on resources of undesirable and prohibited organizations, including Facebook and Instagram (owned by Meta). Meta has been declared extremist in Russia.
