Russia is set to launch a pilot project on June 4th aimed at restricting access to phishing websites, according to a press service report from the Cabinet on June 3rd. The project focuses on combating fraudulent internet resources designed to mimic official government websites in order to steal personal data.
The primary goal of the initiative is to identify and block these deceptive applications. The project will involve government and non-government organizations working together to develop methods for combating phishing sites.
Another key objective is to formulate recommendations for regulatory consolidation of these collaborative mechanisms.
The pilot project is slated to run until March 1, 2026.
It was reported in October 2024 that efforts to eliminate fake websites had resulted in a 116% increase in removals over a nine-month period.
