Russia is intensifying its efforts to combat internet fraud by developing a new package of measures that includes stricter criminal and administrative penalties. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko announced on June 1st that the government aims to impose real sanctions on fraudsters, shifting from primarily technical solutions to more punitive actions.

The initiative seeks to create a comprehensive cybersecurity system designed to mitigate risks for citizens and disrupt the activities of scammers. This multi-layered approach goes beyond isolated amendments, aiming for a more robust defense against cybercrime.

A new law targeting cyber fraud took effect on June 1st, with some provisions already active and others scheduled for implementation in August and September. These measures include the ability to block international calls and automated spam calls, further restricting the avenues used by fraudsters.
