The Russian government has earmarked 1.4 billion rubles to continue efforts in mitigating the environmental impact of the emergency situation in the Kerch Strait. The funds will be used to clean up fuel oil from the water and shore.
Rosmorrechflot will receive the money to monitor and address petroleum product pollution in the aquatic environment. This includes locating and eliminating sources of pollution.
A survey will be conducted to identify sunken tanker fragments and potential remaining fuel oil. These areas will then be sealed off to prevent further contamination.
Rosprirodnadzor has initiated legal action against the tanker owners. The lawsuits seek 84.9 billion rubles in compensation for environmental damage. The companies have not voluntarily compensated for the damages.
