A rock partridge has been spotted in Novosibirsk, Russia, far from its natural habitat. The bird was seen by a local resident, Ekaterina, in the Oktyabrsky district on Dobrolyubova Street.
Ekaterina explained that she noticed the unusual bird in the bushes near a bus stop while walking past the Dobrolyubova Cultural Center. After taking a photo, she used Yandex to identify the bird as a rock partridge.
Biologist Alexei Yanovsky confirmed the identification, noting that rock partridges typically live near high mountains, with the closest population located in southern Kazakhstan. He suggested that the bird may have escaped from captivity, possibly from a farm. He also mentioned that its closest relatives are the gray partridge and quail.
This sighting follows a previous report of a pair of cranes being spotted in the Novosibirsk region. Residents were able to film the cranes.
