A robot barista has begun serving coffee at the Kurskaya station of the Moscow Metro. The Department of Transport announced the arrival of the automated kiosk on May 30th. Currently, the robot is offering complimentary beverages to commuters.
Located in the entrance hall near the Kursky railway station, the transparent kiosk features a robotic arm, coffee machine, and frother. Customers can order classic coffee drinks such as Americano, cappuccino, latte, or flat white via a touchscreen terminal.
The robot arm prepares coffee by creating a tablet from ground coffee, inserting it into the machine, and then dispensing the drink into a cup. The machine offers a choice of small, medium, or large sizes, as well as vanilla and caramel syrups.
The selection of drinks is still limited, but the owners plan to expand the menu in the future.
According to the head of the Department of Transport, Maxim Liksutov, the robot barista was created by a participant of the Moscow Innovation Cluster in 2024. Another similar robot is already in operation at the Nizhegorodskaya station in the metro vending gallery.
A correspondent from MSK1.RU tested the cappuccino, describing it as average in taste, quite tart, and too hot. The machine does not provide lids for the cups, which may pose a risk of spills.
