A road bridge collapse in the Bryansk region of Russia on June 1st led to a passenger train derailment, resulting in at least four fatalities and numerous injuries. The incident occurred on the A-240 highway near the village of Vygonichi, where a bridge collapsed onto the railway tracks below as passenger train No. 86 was passing.
The Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor’s Office has released images showing the collapsed bridge, train cars, and a bus under the debris. Rescue operations are currently underway, with the primary focus on locating and extracting individuals from the wreckage.
Seventeen individuals, including one child, have been hospitalized with injuries. Two are reported to be in serious condition, according to the Federal Ministry of Health. Emergency services are at the scene, and an operational headquarters has been established to coordinate the response.
The derailment took place on the Pilshino-Vygonichi section of the railway. The Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into the incident. Additional resources from the Ministry of Emergency Situations have been dispatched to assist in the aftermath.
