A woman in Voskresensk, Moscow region, has been detained after confessing to the murder of her five-year-old daughter. The incident occurred this morning, prompting a criminal investigation.

The Moscow Region Prosecutor’s Office reports that the suspect allegedly strangled the child with a bathrobe belt and then drowned her in a bathtub.

Details emerging from various sources suggest the tragic event unfolded after the girl approached her mother in the kitchen. One source indicates the woman experienced an “attack of aggression” possibly triggered by depression related to her husband’s intention to leave the family. Another report claims the girl asked for water while watching cartoons, preceding the alleged acts of violence. The mother is also accused of stabbing her daughter in the neck. Subsequently, she reportedly sent a message to her husband stating, “I’m tired of you, I’m killing our daughter.”

Neighbors have expressed disbelief, describing the woman as friendly and calm. One neighbor recalled seeing the woman carrying her daughter in her arms. Residents say she worked at a nearby hypermarket.

Authorities have initiated a series of examinations, including psychological, psychiatric, and molecular genetic evaluations of the suspect.

The suspect faces charges under paragraph “c” of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to the murder of a minor. Although the law allows for a life sentence, women in Russia are not subject to such punishment; therefore, the woman could face up to 20 years in prison.
