A rescue operation is currently underway on the Fontanka Embankment to save a cat trapped within the structure. The effort involves the Committee for Transport and volunteers from “Koshkispas,” who have been working to rescue the animal since July 27.
The Transport Committee has provided a rescue boat and implemented water traffic restrictions to prevent flooding the area where the cat is located. Pleasure boat captains have been asked to reduce their speed near the rescue site.
The cat has been located using a thermal imager at a depth of about 4 meters, moving within a narrow space between the stones. A volunteer from “Koshkispas” attempted to reach the cat by entering the water in a wetsuit.
Leonid Lunev, deputy head of “Koshkispas,” stated that a “homemade analogue of the Channel Tunnel” will be deployed. The plan involves inserting the structure into the hole, with the expectation that the cat will use it to escape.
The situation came to light on Thursday, July 31, when an eyewitness reported hearing cries for help during a boat trip.
Previous attempts to extract the cat have been unsuccessful, including the use of baits and cat traps by “Koshkispas” volunteers.
