A company has acquired an extension to a Stalin-era building in Novosibirsk and plans to renovate its facade in 2025. The extension is attached to a five-story building at 171a Krasny Prospekt.
The Novosibirsk City Hall stated that a commercial organization, Shishkabar LLC, purchased the non-residential premises with the agreement of the homeowners. Finishing work is currently underway inside the extension.
The local historian, Albert Moiseev, believes the extension detracts from the architectural ensemble of the Stalinist Empire-style building, which includes the Energetika Cultural Center and two residential buildings built for employees of the Novosibirsk Electrovacuum Plant. He suggests the extension likely appeared in the 2000s when the city’s appearance received less consideration.
While the company plans to renovate the facade in 2025, city authorities say they lack information on the legal basis for the extension’s placement, including permits issued before 2005.
