Remote Car Rental Option for Taxi Drivers Introduced in St. Petersburg

Taxi drivers in St. Petersburg can now remotely rent cars for work through an online platform, eliminating the need for in-person visits to taxi fleet offices. This new system streamlines the process for both drivers seeking vehicles and taxi fleets managing their inventory.

Taxi fleets with an ERP system can connect to the online booking service, which is accessible in Moscow and St. Petersburg via the Avito mobile application and website. This direct connection allows fleets to receive completed applications from interested drivers efficiently.

The introduction of online booking marks a shift in the market dynamics, automating driver selection for taxi fleets and providing drivers with access to offers without unnecessary communication, according to Artem Egorenkov, Director of the Taxi, Transport and Logistics category at Avito. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to transform the platform into a technology hub for multi-component transactions.

St. Petersburg’s taxi register includes over 61,000 cars, with over 5,000 vehicles added in the first quarter of 2025. In 2024, the register saw an addition of 24,500 new cars, representing a 40% increase compared to 2023. The city’s Transport Committee also noted that the average age of cars in the register has decreased to 3.6 years.

The St. Petersburg register currently lists 2824 carriers and 12 taxi ordering services.
