The annual “Red Square” book festival has commenced in Moscow, offering a wide array of literature and cultural events. The event, which began today, June 4th, boasts the participation of over 400 publishing houses presenting their newest works.
The festival includes a diverse program featuring lectures, theatrical performances, and discussions. Visitors can freely enter Red Square after passing through metal detectors.
High-profile figures such as presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky and Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin attended the opening. Medinsky read a welcoming speech from Vladimir Putin and congratulated writer Prokhanov on his award, while Naryshkin highlighted literature related to the special operation. Economist Sergei Stepashin recited a poem by Sergei Yesenin.
The fair hosts numerous stands, lecture halls, and stages, with many located outdoors. Book publishers from across Russia are present, some showcasing national attire. The fair also offers postcards, T-shirts, shoppers, and tea sets themed around writers and their works.
Author Yuri Norshtein of “Hedgehog in the Fog” will be signing autographs daily. The book selection spans fiction, history, psychology, and more.
State Duma deputy Pavel Krasheninnikov was also present, showcasing his book “On the Road to a Superpower,” which focuses on the history of the USSR during World War II and its aftermath.
The Moscow House of Books stand specifically features works about Vladimir Putin and the special operation in Ukraine.
On June 6th, Moscow will celebrate the birthday of Alexander Pushkin with numerous cultural events, including free museum access, performances, concerts, and lectures.
