The Koltushskoye Highway in the Vsevolozhsk District of the Leningrad Region is undergoing reconstruction to expand it to four lanes up to Koltushi. Sergei Kharlashkin, the Deputy Chairman of the Leningrad Region Government for Transport and Energy Complex, recently inspected the progress of the project. The reconstruction aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the region.
Currently, work is focused on the third and fourth stages of the reconstruction. The section of the highway leading to the Staraya – Kudrovo road will be expanded to four lanes. Furthermore, the road to Koltushi, including the intersection near Voyeykovo, will be overhauled.
According to Dmitry Donskoy, head of the GKU LO “Road Construction Directorate,” the Koltushskoye Highway project is complex due to the need to reconstruct numerous engineering networks and expand the existing two-lane road. The project is contractually obligated to be completed in 2027.
Koltushskoye Highway is a heavily trafficked regional road in the Leningrad Region. The highway has become a bottleneck near St. Petersburg, and the reconstruction is expected to reduce traffic jams on the way to Vsevolozhsk and ease congestion on the Murmansk Highway.
In 2024, the first and second stages of the reconstruction were completed. A 3-kilometer section of the highway in Yanino was expanded to four lanes and put into operation. However, the final stages of this work resulted in significant traffic delays.
