Re-opening of Criminal Case Ordered in Connection with Krasnoselsky District Incident

A criminal case has been re-opened regarding an incident in the Krasnoselsky district involving a businessman and a motorcyclist. Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee, ordered the re-opening under the article on attempted murder.

The incident occurred on the last day of May, when 31-year-old businessman Sergei Sosorev allegedly made an illegal U-turn across a double solid line and collided with a motorcyclist.

Initially, police opened a case under Article 264 of the Criminal Code, citing a violation of traffic rules resulting in serious harm to health through negligence. However, the Investigative Committee viewed the incident as attempted murder and opened a case under Article 30, part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code. This decision was later canceled as illegal by the Krasnoselsky district prosecutor.

The police case reached the court on a preventive measure under two articles. Sosorev is accused of not taking the extreme left position on the roadway, starting a U-turn across a double solid line, failing to yield to the motorcycle, and causing a collision, all of which fall under Article 264.

Furthermore, he is accused of intentionally running over the biker with his Rolls-Royce, using the vehicle as a weapon, with the intent to cause bodily harm, resulting in serious harm to the victim’s health, actions that were qualified under Article 111 of the Criminal Code.

The Krasnoselsky District Court has arrested Sergei Sosorev for two months. Sosorev has pleaded guilty only under Article 264. He stated that he provided assistance to the victim and apologized publicly before the hearing on the choice of a preventive measure.
