Ramzan Kadyrov Criticizes Alla Pugacheva for Remarks on Dzhokhar Dudayev

Chechen Head Ramzan Kadyrov has sharply criticized USSR People’s Artist Alla Pugacheva, labeling her an “enemy of the people and a traitor” in response to her statements about Dzhokhar Dudayev. This strong reaction follows an interview where Pugacheva described Dudayev, the first “president” of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, as a “decent, respectable and handsome man,” expressing regret that she couldn’t save him.

Kadyrov’s criticism extends to accusing Dudayev of prioritizing personal ambition over the well-being of the Chechen people. He claims Dudayev’s actions led to increased crime and financial instability in the region, while he focused on boasting about military capabilities.

The Chechen leader further connects Pugacheva to a broader group of “traitors,” alleging they profited from the conflict while ordinary people suffered. He urged the singer to stop making “pathetic empty talk” and avoid provoking the Chechen nation, referencing the immense loss of life and widespread disability caused by the war.

Pugacheva’s remarks have already drawn legal challenges. Afghan war veteran Alexander Treshchev has filed a lawsuit seeking 1.5 billion rubles in damages from the singer due to her comments.

Dzhokhar Dudayev, who declared Ichkeria’s independence in 1991, was killed in a missile strike in 1996.
