President Vladimir Putin informed former U.S. President Donald Trump that Russia will respond to Ukraine’s attacks on Russian territory. The statement was confirmed by Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, on Thursday, June 5.
Putin emphasized that Ukraine would face a retaliatory strike following attacks on Russian airfields. The timing and method of response will be determined by the Russian military.
Peskov condemned the attacks in the Kursk and Bryansk regions as acts of terrorism authorized at the highest levels of the Ukrainian government. He specifically cited the attack on a passenger train as state-sponsored terrorism.
Putin characterized the Kyiv regime as a terrorist regime, accusing its leadership of deliberately ordering the attack on the passenger train.
Despite the escalating conflict, Putin supports the continuation of working-level contacts between Moscow and Kyiv. Peskov described the conversation between Putin and Trump as constructive and necessary, noting there were no prior arrangements for the discussion.
