Putin states that nationalization will not positively influence Russia’s economic growth.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has asserted that nationalization will not positively impact the growth of the Russian economy. He made these remarks during a plenary session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 on June 20.

Putin addressed the situation involving Domodedovo Airport, which was recently transferred to state ownership by court order, stating that it was a long-standing issue unrelated to nationalization. He clarified that nationalization is a legally defined process, and Russian authorities are not currently applying those regulations.

The President acknowledged that errors occurred during privatization in the early 1990s. However, he emphasized that reversing those decisions now would be an even graver mistake.

Putin also stated that Russia has not expelled foreign investors, noting that many chose to leave the country independently, incurring significant losses. He affirmed Russia’s commitment to fostering a comfortable environment for foreign investors.

On June 17, the Moscow Region Arbitration Court transferred the shares of DME Holding LLC, encompassing 25 organizations valued at over 1 trillion rubles, to state revenue. The claim from the supervisory authority alleged that the beneficiaries, holding foreign citizenship, had unlawfully disposed of the company’s assets.

The XXVIII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is being held from June 18–21, 2025, under the theme “Common values are the basis for growth in a multipolar world.” The event has drawn 20,000 representatives from 140 countries and territories.
