Premiere of “What If There’s No Tomorrow?” Play Addresses Teenage Despair

“Teatralny Proekt 27” will present the premiere of the play “What If There’s No Tomorrow?” on June 16, 17, and 18. Directed by Anna Potebnya, the production delves into serious issues relevant to young audiences.

The play is based on a text by Dmitry Bogoslavsky and tells a story about teenage despair and existential choice, specifically focusing on a moment of crisis. The narrative explores the protagonist’s unbearable situation caused by a breakdown in family communication and a sense of spiritual isolation.

However, the play avoids a purely tragic outcome. A chance encounter with a janitor prevents a catastrophe, initiating a week-long dialogue aimed at saving the protagonist’s life.

Potebnya and her team aim to explore the vulnerability of individuals disconnected from the world. The director emphasizes the importance of having supportive people nearby during difficult times, who can help individuals find meaning and understand the value of life.

The goal is for teenagers and anyone experiencing feelings of emptiness to feel understood and less alone after watching the performance. The director hopes the play will inspire audience members to recognize their own worth and consider that “tomorrow may not come even without our desire to end everything sooner.”

Arseny Tulkov, a 13-year-old actor, will play the main role.
