The Unified State Exam (EGE) in Russia has concluded its initial phase, revealing key trends and insights into student performance and exam administration. According to Anzor Muzaev, head of Rosobrnadzor, the exams proceeded smoothly, with no reported leaks of exam materials.

Specialized mathematics, chemistry, and history have seen increased popularity among test-takers, while literature has experienced a decline. This shift reflects a growing interest in STEM fields, aligning with Russia’s focus on strengthening its industrial and technological sectors amid sanctions.

The exams were conducted without significant violations, despite online rumors of leaks. Muzaev addressed these concerns, clarifying that instances of students photographing exam materials are not considered leaks and result in the student being required to retake the exam the following year.

The increased interest in specialized mathematics is particularly noteworthy, with 30,000 more students opting for the subject compared to last year. This surge is expected to boost the number of applicants for engineering and IT programs, crucial for Russia’s economic development.

T-Bank Chairman Stanislav Bliznyuk advocated for educational loans as a viable option for students who do not score high enough to secure a government-funded place at a university, describing it as an investment in human capital.

Responding to a proposal from Sergei Mironov, leader of “A Just Russia – For Truth,” Muzaev expressed readiness to implement the EGE for officials under the same conditions as students, including security measures.

Regarding the integration of migrant children into the education system, Muzaev acknowledged challenges, with only a small percentage of applicants being admitted to schools due to documentation issues. An incident occurred on June 5 where an individual attempted to take the biology exam in place of someone else and was apprehended by the police.
