Saint Petersburg police have declined to initiate a criminal investigation following an assault at The Wall bar in the Petrogradsky district. The incident, which occurred on Bolshaya Pushkarskaya street, involved visitors wearing Telnyashkas (striped sailor shirts) who allegedly attacked the bar’s owner and an employee.
Despite the owner providing documented evidence of injuries, including a fracture and concussion, and supplying video footage of the incident, law enforcement officials determined that no fight had taken place.
As a result, a 54-year-old player from the Zenit-84 veterans football team received an administrative penalty for petty hooliganism. His brother, who also participated in the assault, was not held accountable.
The altercation at The Wall bar transpired on Navy Day. Three men dressed in Telnyashkas entered the establishment carrying their own food. They reportedly behaved rudely towards the bartender and subsequently struck him.
When the bar owner intervened, he was also subjected to an attack. Medical examination at the Mariinsky Hospital revealed that he had sustained a fracture of the seventh rib and a concussion.
The unruly patrons further escalated the situation by throwing chairs at the bar and overturning tables. Law enforcement officers were ultimately required to intervene to quell the disturbance.
