A 16-year-old boy drowned in Ramada Lake in Yekaterinburg on June 7. The incident occurred at an unequipped beach, prompting increased police patrols in the coastal zone this weekend to emphasize water safety.
The teenager, a student at school number 26 and involved in boxing, was with two friends when the tragedy unfolded. The boys disregarded prohibition signs and attempted to swim across the reservoir when one of them began to drown. His friends were unable to rescue him.
Rescuers recovered the body of the deceased in the evening. The Investigative Committee conducted a scene inspection, interviewed witnesses, and sent the body for forensic examination.
Administrative protocols were issued to the parents of the friends who were present during the drowning for improper performance of parental responsibilities.
Police are reminding residents about safety measures and the importance of parental supervision near water. Parents are urged to educate their children about water safety rules and to closely monitor them while swimming. The police also advise against consuming alcohol while near the water.
