Pipe Leak Fixed in Novosibirsk Landmark Building After Media Report

A pipe leak in a 110-year-old building in Novosibirsk has been repaired after a month of flooding, following a report by NGS. Residents of the two-story building at 1 Topoleva Street had been struggling with the issue since early August.

The persistent leak forced residents to take matters into their own hands, shutting off the water supply and rationing its use. This led to increased humidity, mold growth, and damage to the building’s structure, including falling tiles. The previous management company, Uyuterra, had abandoned the building in November 2024, leaving residents without a responsible party to address the problem.

Following the publication of the news, authorities and the previous management company took action. An investigator interviewed residents, and representatives from the State Housing Inspectorate (GZhI) inspected the property. It was determined that Uyuterra was responsible for servicing the building until a new management company was appointed.

Residents had been attempting to locate and repair the pipes themselves, even resorting to using a jackhammer to access them. Finally, on September 13, the pipes were repaired.

According to residents, the constant water erosion had caused the walls in the bathroom to shift.

Uyutera Management Company LLC, registered in 2009, had a revenue of 58 million rubles and a net profit of 3.3 million rubles at the end of 2024. The company has faced numerous complaints from residents in the past, regarding issues with related management companies, prompting interventions from the GZhI, police, and prosecutor’s office.

It remains unclear which specific organization ultimately repaired the pipe. NGS reached out to UK Uyutera for comment on why they did not continue servicing the building, but has not yet received a response.
