Peach Prices in Yekaterinburg Rise to Beef Level

Peach prices in Yekaterinburg have surged, reaching levels comparable to beef, with a kilogram of ripe fruit costing between 580 and 650 rubles in local vegetable shops. This price hike has surprised residents, who recall significantly lower prices last summer.

The high cost of peaches was first noticed by a local resident, who expressed dismay at paying over 600 rubles for approximately six peaches. She noted that prices at a kiosk in Uralmash reflected a broader trend observed across various vendors.

A survey of different stalls confirmed that the elevated prices were not isolated incidents. Prices reached 650 rubles per kilogram at a vegetable shop near Mayakovsky Park and 580 rubles at the intersection of Belinsky and Tsiolkovsky streets.

While some supermarkets, like Hyperbola, priced peaches at 699 rubles, other large retail chains offered more affordable options, ranging from 220 to 500 rubles per kilogram. Other seasonal fruits, such as nectarines and plums, were also noted for their high prices, reaching 640 and 590 rubles respectively.

According to an expert, the increase is related to the long-distance deliveries and the transaction costs associated with sanctions. He explained that transporting the fruits has become more expensive, thus effecting the prices.

The expert also indicated that peach prices are expected to decrease soon. With the arrival of new harvests from the Northern Hemisphere, buyers can anticipate more affordable prices compared to those from distant regions or greenhouse-grown options.
