A passenger’s phone ignited mid-flight on a Ural Airlines Airbus A320 traveling from Irkutsk to Moscow, prompting a swift response from the cabin crew. Flight U6-106, which departed at 7:35 AM, experienced the incident when a Redmi 14 PRO smartphone began smoking.
The passenger, seated at the front of the cabin, immediately threw the device onto the floor as smoke billowed from it. Other passengers assisted by pouring water on the burning phone. The cabin crew quickly extinguished the fire, adhering to safety protocols.
Flight attendants donned fire-resistant gloves and submerged the phone in a metal container filled with water. The device was then relocated to the lavatory to contain the fire and smoke.
Smoke and a strong odor permeated the cabin, reaching even the cockpit. In response, specialists deactivated the ventilation system and distributed wet wipes to passengers to help them cope with the smoke. A pregnant woman seated near the incident was moved to another part of the aircraft.
The flight proceeded normally after the fire was extinguished. The cause of the phone’s sudden combustion remains unknown, though poor manufacturing quality is suspected.
