Over 45,000 Russians Earn Monthly Salaries Exceeding One Million Rubles

More than 45,000 Russians are now earning salaries exceeding one million rubles per month, according to a recent study by Rosstat. The data, released on July 30th, reveals a significant increase in the number of high-income earners compared to previous years.

The study encompassed a substantial sample size, analyzing 28.4 million employees from 95,400 organizations, excluding small businesses. The analysis is conducted biennially, with the reported figures based on data collected in April.

The findings indicate a tiered distribution of high earners. Specifically, 34,400 individuals earn between 1 and 2 million rubles, while 5,700 earn between 2 and 3 million rubles. A further 5,300 Russians boast monthly incomes exceeding 3 million rubles.

The highest concentrations of these high-income earners are found in specific sectors. Information and communication lead with 9,900 individuals, followed by trade (6,700), manufacturing (6,300), and finance and insurance (6,200). This represents a shift from two years prior when trade, industry, and finance dominated the high-income landscape.

The proportion of “millionaire” earners has doubled in recent years. In 2025, this group represents 0.16% of the total employee population, a notable increase from 0.08% in 2023.

According to Petrostat, the average nominal salary in St. Petersburg at the end of the first quarter of 2025 was 113.9 thousand rubles, an increase from 108.3 thousand rubles at the end of last year.
