Only Three Bodies of Water in St. Petersburg Deemed Safe for Swimming

Only three bodies of water in St. Petersburg have been declared safe for swimming as of early June, according to regional Rospotrebnadzor.

Lake Bezymyannoye in the Krasnoselsky district, First Suzdal Lake, and Olginsky Pond in the Vyborgsky district are the only locations that meet the required water quality standards. Alexei Lukyanchenko, a representative of the regional Rospotrebnadzor, announced these findings during a press conference on June 3rd.

The water samples were collected in May from all 24 beaches and underwent laboratory testing for sanitary-biological, virological, and infectious indicators.

Rospotrebnadzor emphasized that swimming in water bodies that do not meet the established standards could result in intestinal, infectious, and parasitic diseases.

Water quality monitoring will continue on a weekly basis throughout the summer. The situation is unchanged from the beginning of June 2024, when only three safe swimming areas were identified in St. Petersburg.
