Oleg Tinkov Ordered to Pay 40 Million Rubles to Oleg Deripaska for Defamatory Statements

The Reutov City Court in the Moscow region has ruled that businessman Oleg Tinkov must pay 40 million rubles to Oleg Deripaska for making defamatory statements against him on Instagram. Tinkov, who has been designated as a foreign agent by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, is also required to retract and remove the statements.

According to Deripaska’s lawyer, Alexei Melnikov, the court found the information disseminated by Tinkov to be false and ordered him to delete and refute it. Additionally, Tinkov faces a penalty of 100,000 rubles for each day he fails to comply with the court’s decision.

The lawsuit stemmed from an Instagram post in which Tinkov allegedly insulted Deripaska. Melnikov told RBC that Tinkov had attempted to resolve the issue but refused to apologize or retract the publication. Deripaska’s representative emphasized the importance of informing readers who had been exposed to the false information that it was, in fact, a lie.

The case was heard in Reutov because Tinkov allegedly claims that his last place of residence in Russia is a communal apartment in the city. This is not the first time Deripaska has sued Tinkov. In October 2023, Tinkov was ordered to pay Deripaska 20 million rubles in a separate lawsuit to protect honor and dignity, which was filed in August 2022 due to Tinkov’s description of Deripaska as a “dishonest man” on social media.
