Novosibirsk Residents Share Their Views on City Landscaping

Novosibirsk residents have mixed opinions on the city’s landscaping, with some praising improvements in certain areas and others criticizing the lack of greenery and quality of paving. A recent survey of the city center revealed differing perspectives on the presence and quality of lawns, flowerbeds, and overall urban green spaces.

One common concern was the lack of vibrant flowers and well-maintained lawns in certain areas. A visitor from Omsk expressed disappointment with the simplicity of Central Park, suggesting the addition of more exotic plants and brighter floral arrangements. Similarly, a resident from the MZhK district noted that while the city center boasts attractive landscaping, outlying areas lack similar attention to detail.

Comparisons to other cities, particularly Moscow, highlighted potential areas for improvement. A former Novosibirsk resident who moved to Moscow praised the latter’s proactive approach to landscaping, including the immediate replacement of damaged trees and the laying of new lawns after infrastructure repairs. She also criticized the presence of weeds growing between paving slabs in Novosibirsk.

However, some residents expressed satisfaction with the progress made in recent years. One woman specifically cited improvements in Central Park, noting the addition of asphalt paths that made it easier to navigate with a stroller. Another resident from Uritsky Street praised the landscaping improvements made after the reconstruction of her street.

The lack of green spaces and parks in the city center was also a point of concern for some. One resident lamented the limited options for relaxation, citing Pervomaisky Square as primarily a nighttime spot for young people and Central Park being surrounded by busy roads. He also pointed out the abundance of barriers compared to trees in the city.
