Novosibirsk Residents Debate Conductor’s Comfort in Tram

A debate has sparked among residents of Novosibirsk regarding a tram conductor’s setup on tram #13. The controversy arose after a passenger expressed discontent over the conductor occupying two seats and personalizing the space with a blanket and organizer, following a validator malfunction that necessitated the conductor’s presence.

The initial complaint, shared on the Telegram channel “Kukurza News of Novosibirsk and Russia,” ignited a discussion about the appropriateness of the conductor’s actions. The passenger questioned why a new tram was being turned into a “gypsy tent” by taking up two seats.

Comments on the NGS Telegram channel revealed divided opinions. Many defended the conductor, citing the demanding nature of the job, requiring long hours on their feet, often starting before dawn. Supporters argued that having an organized space was reasonable, especially considering mobile internet disruptions that hinder payment processing.

However, some residents sided with the initial complainant, asserting that trams are primarily for passengers. They felt that conductors should be limited to one seat to avoid inconveniencing riders.

Beyond the conductor’s setup, one resident voiced broader concerns about the cleanliness of Novosibirsk’s public transportation, alleging that the interiors are not regularly cleaned and the seats are unhygienic. The resident argued that this issue should be addressed by inspectors, not the conductors.

The Novosibirsk City Hall has been contacted for comment on the situation. This incident follows a previous complaint regarding bus #139 drivers requesting passengers to transfer fares via phone number.
