A circus gymnast, Zhibek Kazakova, is recovering after undergoing successful spinal surgery in Novosibirsk following a severe fall during a performance. Doctors from the Novosibirsk NIITO named after Ya. L. Tsivyan, spinal surgeons Alexey Lastevsky and Kirill Anikin, were featured on the show “Male Female” discussing the case.
Kazakova fell from a height when a cable broke during her performance, resulting in a severe spinal injury. “I fell because a cable broke from the ceiling. It couldn’t handle it, or it was overtightened, in short, something happened there, and I collapsed along with my entire structure onto the floor,” she stated.
After the fall, Kazakova sought medical help in Kyrgyzstan, but after three unsuccessful operations, she looked for alternative treatments. The damaged vertebra was not properly stabilized, prompting her to seek specialized care in Novosibirsk.
In Novosibirsk, surgeons successfully installed an implant to replace the damaged vertebra and removed broken bolts from previous surgeries. Lastevsky stated that their primary goal was to remove the broken structures from the previous procedures.
Kazakova, however, has decided to end her career as a circus gymnast. Anikin noted that Kazakova is currently undergoing rehabilitation, with doctors monitoring the formation of a bone block, a process that typically takes about a year.
