A family from Samara and a private detective have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms by the Soviet District Court of Novosibirsk for kidnapping a student daughter and other related crimes. The five defendants received sentences ranging from 7 to 10 years in a penal colony.
The family was accused of kidnapping their daughter, extorting a share in her apartment worth 1.5 million rubles, robbery, and armed robbery, stemming from an incident where they allegedly took the phones of the daughter and her friend during a fight. The court reclassified the armed robbery charge as another count of robbery.
The private detective, hired by the family for 35,000 rubles to locate the girl in Novosibirsk, was also convicted in the case.
The girl’s grandmother received a sentence of 7 years and 1 month in a general regime penal colony, despite being under house arrest during the investigation. The uncle was sentenced to 8.5 years in a strict regime penal colony, while the mother and stepfather each received 10-year sentences in a penal colony. The private detective was sentenced to 8 years in a strict regime penal colony.
The court also ordered the family members and the detective to pay compensation for moral damages to the victim. The mother and stepfather must pay 340,000 rubles, the detective 120,000 rubles, the grandmother 80,000 rubles, and the uncle 20,000 rubles.
