North Korea will dispatch a significant contingent of personnel, including one thousand sappers and five thousand military builders, to the Kursk region of Russia. This deployment aims to aid in the recovery and reconstruction efforts following the impact of hostilities in the area.
The agreement to send North Korean units was reached during discussions in Pyongyang, according to Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un approved the dispatch of these personnel to assist in addressing the aftermath of conflict in the Kursk region.
The sappers will focus on demining operations, while the military builders will be tasked with restoring damaged infrastructure within the region. This collaborative effort underscores the strengthening ties between Russia and North Korea.
In addition to the deployment of personnel, both nations have agreed to establish memorials honoring Korean soldiers who fought for the liberation of Russian territories. A memorial complex, complete with a museum, is planned for construction in Pyongyang with Russian support.
Shoigu previously expressed gratitude to Kim Jong-un for the contributions of Korean soldiers in liberating the Kursk region, acknowledging their exceptional bravery and commitment.
