Nizhny Tagil is commemorating the one-year anniversary of the explosion that destroyed a five-story building on Sibirskaya Street, claiming eleven lives, including six children.
Relatives of the victims will gather at the site of the tragedy and then visit the cemetery for a memorial service at noon, the time the explosion occurred one year ago.
The tragedy, which became known as the Sibirskaya Street tragedy, saw the building collapse, requiring two days of rescue efforts to search for survivors under the rubble.
The city is creating a memorial park at the site of the former building with paths being laid and eleven spruces, representing each victim, to be planted. The park will also include playgrounds, benches, and a parking lot.
