St. Petersburg hosted the IX International Sup Surfing Festival “Fontanka SUP” in August 2024, attracting over 10,000 participants from 14 countries and more than 250 Russian cities. The event transformed the city’s waterways into a vibrant display of colors and emotions.
The festival featured an 8-kilometer route that spanned the Moika River, Fontanka River, and Kryukov Canal, taking participants under 28 bridges. A sports swim, the Fontanka CUP race, saw participation double from the previous year, with 300 people competing.
A Russian record was established during the festival with 61 individuals simultaneously riding a single SUP board. The event also included 17 competitive nominations with awards given to the most creative participants.
Approximately 100,000 spectators watched the festival from the riverbanks. The festival accommodated dozens of pets on SUP boards. Two newlywed couples celebrated their wedding on the water and Miss SUP was selected.
Organizers are now preparing for Fontanka SUP 2025, with registration scheduled to open on June 16.
