Ninth-Graders Receive Zero Points on Russian Exam Due to Incorrect Audio File

Ninth-graders in Dubna and Chekhov, Moscow region, will not need to retake the OGE (state exam) in Russian after receiving zero points for their summary due to an error by the organizers. The Ministry of Education of the Moscow Region announced that the affected students’ work will be rechecked based on the incorrect text that was played during the exam.

The issue arose on June 9, when students in multiple classrooms received the wrong audio file for the summary portion of the exam, where they are required to listen to a text and retell it in writing. This resulted in over two hundred students receiving zero points for the task, a significant blow to their overall scores and potentially affecting their certificates.

After complaints surfaced on social media, the Ministry of Education intervened. According to the ministry, district education departments are now working directly with parents to address the situation.

The summary task is a mandatory part of the OGE in Russian, worth up to 6 points. Students are evaluated on their ability to convey the main idea, maintain the logic of the narrative, present specific facts, and adhere to spelling and punctuation rules.

This incident follows earlier complaints from students regarding the OGE in chemistry and concerns about a tricky task in the Unified State Exam (EGE) in Russian. Rosobrnadzor reported that 608 individuals were removed from the EGE this year, with 189 caught using phones.
