Russians Warned About Phishing Scams Disguised as Government Communications
The State Duma is alerting Russian citizens to new fraudulent schemes circulating ahead of Russia Day. Scammers are sending deceptive notifications via platforms such as “Gosuslugi” (Government Services Portal) and posing as banks, promising prize draws or payments. Victims are then prompted to enter their credit card details or log in to fake websites. Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, has identified these tactics as phishing attempts, emphasizing that legitimate government agencies do not solicit financial information in this manner. Similar scams involve fake bank notifications requesting login confirmation, leading to the theft of usernames and passwords. Scammers are also impersonating officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the prosecutor’s office, or financial monitoring agencies, pressuring individuals to transfer funds to so-called “safe accounts.” Authorities are urging Russians to avoid clicking on suspicious links and refrain from sharing personal data with unknown parties.
Strawberry Prices Expected to Plunge in the Coming Weeks
Consumers can anticipate a significant drop in strawberry prices over the next two weeks, according to Igor Balynin, Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. Balynin forecasts a price decrease of approximately 25–30% from current levels, reaching the minimum price point for the year before gradually increasing as the season concludes. Due to the perishable nature of strawberries, prices can vary considerably among sellers based on harvest volume and buyer demand. Balynin also noted that discounts of 20% or more are often available from market sellers at the end of the day.
Clarification on Regulations for Fences on Dacha Plots
Recent discussions in the media have addressed the regulations surrounding fences on dacha (summer house) plots. It has been clarified that Russian law permits homeowners to erect solid fences facing the street. However, between adjacent plots, it is recommended to install mesh fences with a height of 1.2-1.8 meters to allow light and air to pass through. Fines may be imposed in certain regions for erecting fences that exceed the permitted height. Pavel Sklyanuk, an expert of the “People’s Front. Analytics” project, has refuted claims of fines up to 30,000 rubles for solid fences taller than 1.8 meters, noting that fence height is typically determined through agreements between neighbors. Natalia Skryabina, a member of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, confirmed the existence of rules 53.13330.2019, which recommend mesh fences between plots and allow solid fences only along streets and driveways. Violations of landscaping rules can result in fines ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 rubles. Solid fences are often constructed from materials such as corrugated board, brick, or concrete.
Rosobrnadzor Rejects Proposal for Free Meals During Unified State Exam
Rosobrnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science) has dismissed the proposal to provide free meals for participants and organizers during the Unified State Exam (EGE) and the Main State Exam (OGE). Anzor Muzaev, head of the department, expressed his skepticism during a strategic session at the Sirius educational center. According to TASS, Muzaev stated that he does not see the need to introduce this initiative and has not found a concrete understanding of why it is required. The proposal had been put forth by a group of State Duma deputies to the Minister of Education, Sergei Kravtsov, suggesting that examination centers should provide full lunches to all participants. However, Rosobrnadzor maintains that the current examination system has proven its effectiveness, citing data that shows applicants who score at least 60 points on the EGE successfully manage university programs.
