A girl who ran away from a St. Petersburg hospital nine years ago after not receiving birthday wishes has been found. The girl, who disappeared in 2016, was located using camera footage.

The girl explained she ran away due to family issues and to avoid a planned operation. She initially hid with a friend, then moved to another city where she secretly gave birth to two children with a man. The State Investigative Committee for the city reported that the girl had deleted her social media page, left her belongings and documents in the hospital, and took a jacket from a ward neighbor before leaving. Investigators learned from acquaintances that she had argued with her family before her disappearance because they did not wish her a happy birthday.
